Conservative Leicestershire County Council to play leading role in Freeport

Freeport Lead

Leicestershire Conservatives are today delighted to announce that Leicestershire County Council has been named lead authority and accountable body for the East Midlands Freeport, which will include a significant base at East Midlands Airport and Gateway Industrial Cluster (EMAGIC).

The Freeport is projected to bring 60,000 additional jobs to the region, providing a huge boost to our economy, as businesses take advantage of freeport trading status.

Becoming lead authority will Leicestershire County Council to play a major role in strategic planning.

Nick Rushton, County Council Leader and Conservative candidate for the Valley Division commented: “This is a massive boost for Leicestershire County Council and North West Leicestershire. I’m delighted that this Conservative administration have secured this great news, which will allow us to lead the way in growing our local and regional economy.”
